    The Department of Asia-Pacific Industrial and Business Management (APIBM), located in Kaohsiung, one of the hot spots of industry, trade, and transportation in the Asia-Pacific region, aims to train students with business management & leadership skills and help them cultivate sensitivity to Asia-Pacific industries. To assist local companies with investment in China and Southeast Asian countries to have an overview of the matters related to culture, geography, history, society and business of the invested countries in the hope of avoiding management problems caused by cultural misunderstanding, the Department sees the need to train skilled international management personnel with discipline, innovation and perspective. We are well equipped and experienced to upgrade the executive and technical staff of the invested country sent by Taiwanese business companies to the island for further education and training to facilitate the continuing development of the companies in the invested country.


    The Department, established in August 2001, is the first of its kind on the island to provide programs which specialize in Asia-Pacific affairs. In accordance with the recurrent education policy of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the overall development of the University, a two-year undergraduate program for working professionals was launched in 2003. In accordance with national and industrial policies as well as the University’s development, a postgraduate program and a postgraduate program for working professionals were offered in 2006 and 2009 respectively.



    We recognize the importance of business leadership and are convinced that a successful leader can decide how an organization will be developed. A world-class leader can change history through management concepts and knowledge. In addition to passing concepts of leadership and management, we emphasize all-round training for the leader. Thus, the focus of our curriculum design is to integrate the know-how of industrial management with the knowledge of business management. To display the strategies and achieve the objectives mentioned above, quality faculty, outstanding students, and advanced teaching & research resources are required.


I. Quality Faculty

    Our faculty members keep moving toward in their respective academic fields and integrate their research achievement with the Asia-Pacific business management practices. They provide students with the knowledge and experience of their area of expertise, such as leadership, strategies, innovation, marketing, and management science, as well as design innovative and professional courses which not only fulfill our departmental objectives, but also give students an opportunity to have a sound grasp of the essence of Asia-Pacific Industrial Management.


II. Outstanding Students

    Local students are normally recruited through selection-based application, joint entrance examination, and independent examination for a Master’s program. Foreign and overseas Taiwanese students are admitted through an assessment and application process. We intend to provide our students a multicultural and multilingual environment where they can learn from with each other and exchange their views. In addition to cultivating an international vision in the affairs and cultures of the Asia-Pacific region, we train students to attain a remarkable proficiency in foreign language skills. Some courses are taught in English and some in Chinese and English. There are optional courses in Asian languages, such as Japanese, Vietnamese, and Russian offered by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Language Center. In accordance with MOE’s recurrent education policy, we are now recruiting working professionals, aiming to cultivate management personnel of all levels. We attempt to unite theory with practice through the interaction between regular classes, working professionals classes, and continuing education classes.


III. Advanced Teaching & Research Resources

    The Department is equipped with seminar rooms, one of which is dedicated to Special Topics on Asia-Pacific Industry and Business. It is hoped that the equipment and resources can facilitate the research and promotion of theory and practice integration.
